Nephrology is an internal medicine specializing in the health and diseases of the kidneys.
Nephrology cooperates with most medical specialties (rheumatology, oncology, hematology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, cardiology, neurology, thoracic diseases) and surgical specialties (urology, gynecology and high-risk pregnancy, general surgery, orthopedics, cardiovascular surgery).
WHO IS A NEPHROLOGIST?
After completing a 4-year internal medicine specialty training and becoming an internal medicine specialist, a physician who completes a 3-year nephrology specialization and succeeds in subspecialty specialization exam is called a nephrologist.
A nephrologist is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease caused by both kidney and non-renal causes. They also take steps to protect kidney health.
