KIDNEY HEALTH
Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment of Kidney Failure
If you have a family history of diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, or kidney disease; if you are overweight; or if you are over 60 years of age, you should have your kidneys checked at least once a year, whether you have symptoms or not.
HYPERTENSION
A measured blood pressure greater than 140/90 mmHg in an adult is defined as “hypertension”. The likelihood of developing hypertension increases with age. Patients with hypertension have a higher risk of heart attack, heart failure, stroke, chronic kidney failure and death than normal individuals. Hypertension is the second leading cause of chronic kidney failure after diabetes.
WHAT IS NEPHROLOGY?
Nephrology is an internal medicine specializing in the health and diseases of the kidneys.
Nephrology cooperates with most medical specialties (rheumatology, oncology, hematology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, cardiology, neurology, thoracic diseases) and surgical specialties (urology, gynecology and high-risk pregnancy, general surgery, orthopedics, cardiovascular surgery).
